What we are looking for:

Nova-Tron Controls Corp. is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer for its Alpena, Michigan location. In this role, you will design controls for material handling systems used by some of the largest warehousing and distribution companies in the U.S. Responsibilities include developing electrical specifications, designing device layouts and control schematics, programming PLC logic, and debugging systems. The goal is to deliver high-quality solutions that provide exceptional value to our customers.

What You Will Do:

  • Review customer specifications and scope documentation for quotations and clarification.
  • Design system layouts, schematics, and control devices according to customer specifications.
  • Create and design system layouts, schematics, and control devices.
  • Handle diverse, specialized, and complex tasks with significant accountability and decision-making.
  • Maintain a project schedule to meet key milestones and deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain documentation that meets customer requirements (e.g., risk assessments, functional descriptions, troubleshooting manuals).
  • Prepare and review schematics and specifications for control panel fabrication.
  • Provide documentation and instructions for field wiring.
  • Create and review Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs.
  • Lead assigned teams in the field, set priorities based on project needs, and report progress to project and engineering management.
  • Conduct process checks and design reviews.
  • Coordinate with equipment designers to ensure the mechanical placement of control devices supports system functionality and customer requirements.
  • Contribute to project “lessons learned” for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • This position will require travel up to 25% of the time.

  • Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical or other related electrical CAD systems.
  • Skilled in MS Office tools, particularly Excel and Teams.
  • Experienced with industrial HMI and SCADA systems, and familiar with Allen-Bradley controls/controllers.
  • Knowledgeable in system networking for device integration.

Preferred Experience:

  • Familiarity with
    • WMS Warehouse Management Systems
    • WCS Warehouse Control Systems integration.
  • Experience with both AC and DC Voltage electrical systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in an engineering discipline (preferably Electrical, Controls, or Robotics).
